Sending an email

Some days ago I received an email, that I will show you.

Well... I could not believe my eyes... In the year 2016 there are still companies buying databases without a minimum criteria and that, in order to broaden their market, think that presenting a catalogue written in Word in a blank email can be a successful operation. "We will find someone interested among X names…" must have thought who clicked the "send" button in Outlook.

I do not know about you, but I felt pervaded by a sense of irritation in receiving this email. And so I pressed the "Reply All" button (although it was only one that sent that email, but it is important to use this button a bit more often!).

First of all let’s analyze the email.
A company based in the South of Italy sends an email to propose its products (doors and windows) to a company based in the North of Italy, probably to broaden its clients... and this sounds strange already. Ok, if they offered something exclusive… but these are doors and windows that, although handcrafted, are quite common... and in the North we do not lack of carpenters, especially in the Brianza area. This is the first mistake done.

The second mistake is the subject: "Company presentation”... Now, even considering that I'm not a journalist, but I however receive around 200 emails a day, I focused on the email, not so much for my interest, but because I could not believe I had received an email like that. Initially I thought it was spam or virus, I swear. ☺ But before throwing it away I wanted to analyze it and use it just as a teaching tool, to show how you must NOT write an email with a commercial and informative scope. As you can see from the picture, the body of the email is EMPTY. Not a presentation or a greeting, or a signature... nothing. The unsuspecting sender leaves his hopes in the "pdf" attached (Adobe Acrobat) 2.5MB ...

I opened the attachment, and from there I understood everything... I would like to show it to you, but then I should kill you because I would reveal the sender's name. ☺ I'll describe it, though. Two pages created in Word, one in A4, an A4, and a third (yes, slightly smaller than the A4 size). The first page shows a stretched picture of some managers (…elongated, not in the correct format anyway), under the photo of the headquarter, and a text presenting the Company. Among other things, it includes interesting information on how to reach them, as if from the Como Lake I should take my car, take the entire A1 autoroute, exit in Nola and do 5 comfortable kms to reach them... okay. He signs as Sales Manager… congratulations for the studies. Second page, some photos, and I clearly see that the email address shown is not the same one used to send the email. A series of images, including a beautiful lady on a relaxing chair with attractive eyes enriches the content of the page, ending with the Internet address of the company website, telephone number and email.

I forward the same question to you. Would you really go to Nola to buy doors and windows from a company that introduces itself like this?

 Not me.
